At first glance, Unicorn's square rigging and rakish lines carry the imagination back to the days of sailing explorations and broadside sea battles. But you will not be living the cramped, deprived life of the mutineers on the Bounty or the fighting men on Capt. Jack Aubrey's Surprise. Far from it.
In its prior life, Unicorn's accommodations consisted of plain and somewhat Spartan berths. In the winter of 2003, Unicorn came out of dry dock in the shipbuilding town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, with $600,000 in renovations designed to prepare her for a new life in Sail Training for women, executives, and youth.
Unicorn has six staterooms: one large fo'c'sle bunk room, four midship cabins and a fifth larger owner's cabin aft. The accommodations feature maple cabinetry and teak and holly cabin soles. Maple was chosen over mahogany for interior spaces to create a warm ambiance without being overly dark. All quarters have their own heads and showers and comfortable queen-sized beds.
A comfortable aft salon offers an informal gathering space for group facilitations or a place to just relax with a good book. The galley is spacious and equipped with modern commercial kitchen facilities. No hardtack and smoked cod allowed.
